i was wondering if there was a way to see if you have killed and enemy or not other than looking at the areas and stuff.

You can tell by looking at the creature's health bar in game! If you haven't discovered a creature type yet its health bar will have a gold/yellow border. Gray/silver borders will indicate you have discovered the creature type already but not with that level number.
