@Moniq... the gold cat is the King Lion. That is not the quest. The Jaguar is the quest today, which has a white chest, not a gold chest.

Jaguars only spawn in 3 biomes... and ya, you have to look closely to differentiate between the (leg) King lion

I was in the desert but no luck, except gold wolf, gold crocodile and 6 gold roamers. And also gold horse before in a forest. But no gold or yellow cats. I am not sure I want to try more, better spend the time with building maybe.

@ Moniq... Go back in another hour and try. It was luck yesterday, but I got my quest done in about 45 mins. And it was in the desert... around level 300.
