Not sure if anyone ran into this (I did on stream a few times), but if you open up the world map with the 'M'-key and then close it, you can end up with a different item being selected. For instance: having your crossbow selected upon opening the map and then suddenly having the shovel selected after closing it. I've fixed this for the next update.
