A random topic. To Digital Artist: curious how others go about storing and managing their files. What are some preferred approaches others have to saving files of digital productions you're working on, backups, finals, deciding whether to purchase more storage. Justifying the purchase of external storage devices over a new production device. Purchasing a new hard drive over purchasing a new computer with more space. Preference on Cloud storage? All that. Anyway, just a curiosity.

Do I count as a digital artist? The files that I'm actively working on are stored on my computer's internal drive, and I keep most source files on there too. I move rendered material and big source videos to external storage when I don't see a need for them anymore in the mid-term future. I keep weekly to daily onsite backups on external disks, and have a continuous online backup. On major releases I burn a set of optical discs that I store in random locations. My storage practices aren't super formal, but (knock on wood) I haven't lost any data for many years, even though I had several disks fail in that period.

I think I can count as a digital artist, I keep my files on my iPad, and Mac as a backup and then there is a extra spare on my iCloud to make sure that if anything happens I still have it, of course I have not had a space issue yet so storing them like this is not a problem. But if you are having a space issue the app that I mentioned to you on discord Linearity Curve does have there own cloud that can hold and help sync all your files, I have been using them for my textures and it works pretty good.

Thanks guys. I do use the photoshop cloud for going between iMac and iPad, tho both devices are on the low end of disc space if I'm planning for long term storage. I guess it's a matter of which device or cloud service is easiest to commit to. Sometimes with these mind mazes i like to make analogies of craftsmen managing their productions Before the digital age. lol. If they had several paintings, creations, and tools, they'd have to decide where to store it all and which storage shed and new tool set fits their budget best.
