For the record, I usually give people present the option to go over or through, and in fact, I recommended over for the amazing view, but Tailsmancion wanted to dig, so we did. But generally, I do prefer cut&fill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut_and_fill over stairs. Stairs are a drag to build.
