It's not that hard to get coins when you get further into the game. You just need to head inland (away from the village) and you will get tougher enemies and new areas. Each new type of enemy you defeat gives you 250 bonus coins. Each new difficulty level of an enemy gives you 10 coins per a difficulty, each new block type gives you 250 coins and each new area gives you 1000 coins. Some special enemies have higher bonuses, and even special items they give you for the first time you defeat them. Discovery bonuses are probably your best way to gain coins.
