Buttons are a sign of weakness and poor design. If syncing world data is an essential feature then it needs to be added transparently. We shouldn't require players to press buttons for a decent game experience (uhm). The biggest technical problems I'd need to solve are detecting network congestion, server-side parallelization of data compression and optimizing the client-side data storage format.
