As a note, Windows includes a remap tool for any standard driver controller in the control panel. Linux includes one in the command line, as well as in many control panel applications. On android it varies because there is no universal tools for joystick HID yet. Same with iOS last I checked. I'm not sure about OS X. (I haven't used it in a long time, and haven't researched this particular subject.) For people launching through Steam, steam has advanced controller remap for several types of popular controllers, including PS4 and Steam Controller.
