Don't be sad! Most of the tools that I used are open source or easily replaced with open source tools. Just get a C++ IDE and get started on your game today!

if you don't understand the phrase "C++ IDE" you're probably not ready for game development... (not that I would ever use an IDE... just give me: xterm, vim and make)
