It used to be you had to discover (kill) a creature before you could ride it. I would support going back to that. Not sure why you say it's non-obvious, currently, you have to goto the individual hero page to abandon your current mount, now that same page would let you select from a list of mounts that hero has previously ridden or none (presumably starting from date X when you implement the feature)

For the record, my email request to FF has always been: use E to mount/dismount your ride (same as has always been) but in order to ride a new creature you must equip your saddle, (just like you do a wand or a pet snack) and use the saddle on the new creature. It actually already does work that way, it's just that the E key will select/ride a new creature if your current mount is not nearby.

Basing it on the 'discovered' statistic is better, doesn't overcomplicate things. Some players would lose future access to a creature yes, but it would improove everyone's experience in the future. Selecting from a list of mounts that hero has previously ridden is overcomplicating things. It might be nice for the legendary mobs since they are "prestige" or whatever, but leave the common colorful mounts out of it!

Why not make the 'previously ridden' thing in account for legendaries only. I see you only care about the legendaries ones as being copied over and loosing their meaning. So make the special list for legendaries only, which will make them more special in the meanwhile, since legendaries are then hero specific and commons are not.

Do any other players want to chime in with their experiences and expectations? In all I think the idea shows promise and would make it less frustrating to deal with mounts. On the other hand: I think the current system works perfectly fine for 90–99% percent of the player base (sorry Hummm!) since I [almost] never get complaints about this at all.

I had problems a couple of times, when I tried to mount my drake and when there was a bear (or other rideable mount) nearby, I'd end up mounting the bear instead, and momentarily losing my drake. I'd only have the real problem, if I had quickly teleported somewhere, after the error in mounting, and not notice the error in time. That might have been what happened to Hummm. I have a problem mostly, when accidentally hitting the "E" key, and I'd dismount my ride. The "E" key is near other often used keys (like the "F", "S", "D",and "W" keys). I think, I'd hit the "E" key, mostly, when trying to hit the "W" key, for moving forward. Maybe, if the dismount/mount key was the "Z" or "X" key, it'd be better... or, I could just look at the keys when I hit them.
