Google/Bing Discord on a search engine, then you download the app, next you get an authenticator and add both your email and phone to 2Oath everything for safety be sure to verify on both email and phone, next up buy Nitro Classic or Higher so you can have Animated emotes, and Animated profile pic, you can even choose your #0000 four digit number to be any, there is other perks to, be sure to get yearly plans cuz they always cheapest, next up create or join a server, if you created then post the invite to all applicable people and sources you want in server, family, friends, strangers, gamers, etc. last up make sure mic and cam work in case you video or voice chat or stream, and otherwise if your cam and mic shy then don't bother as the previous steps got you into discord as a fully fledged member, of course you can avoid the Nitro perks they not needed, and authenticator is not needed either, but if you wanna go full in then those are the steps, then lastly you can Join a house kinda like harry potter there was a hat that chooses, well there is similar they ask questions, for me I'm the "Red" Brilliance but for you, can be any 3 or skip it also, then really it's up to you but be active and chat to people whether your's or their's servers, welcome to discord and enjoy! :)

Hummms explanation is good but there is other steps for security and perks and a house if you wanted to go the extra mile I kinda never explained the step by step like he did but just use your eyes and read and click you will always find what you want as Discord for most things throws the Nitro and Boost always in your face, the House thing and Authenticator thing are both not immediately in your face when you join but that's discord in a nutshell and also Discord supports "MARKUP" languages so go ahead and code away or just be creative Cheers! :)
