Wonder(ful) builders of Angeldust: I'm looking to improve your building experience! How often do you use 'indirect targeting' to place blocks? Here's a 3-pane illustration for clarity: http://downloads.angeldu.st/indirect-targeting-1.jpg 'Indirect targeting' is nudging blocks into empty spaces whereas you'd normally directly target the exact place where you want the block. I want to remove indirect targeting in favor of extending the range of direct targeting, making building more comfortable. Let me know if you find indirect targeting to be indispensable!

I use indirect targeting a lot. For me personally it's gonna be a lot more difficult (impossible) to build.

I'm no wonder builder, but I have built (more than my share of) roads and walls. ... I (almost) always build as scorc and ALWAYS in 3rd person... I can't say that I've ever noticed the the difference between direct and indirect (I've never even noticed the "target") I look at the wireframe of the block. ... but if the change means I can't build around corners or through existing blocks I would not welcome it either.

Because you are in favor of the direct targeting method. I think it would make building easier, not harder. Extending the targeting range will also make it easier as we wouldn't have to physically move as often to extend our building range. So I'm in support of the change.

However, on second thought, I can see that it might cause problems when trying to fill voids or outside surfaces without it.

Indirect targeting is something I really like and use almost more than direct targeting, much easier to build around corrners and behind blocks. Indirrect targeting is this game, don't remove it.

Thanks for the quick replies! It's really, really hard to explain what 'indirect targeting' is, so I want to make absolutely sure we're on the same page before jumping to conclusions. Indirect targeting again is pointing your crosshair somewhere empty or otherwise not-targetable (too close / too far away). It only works to place blocks very close by when you can not target anything else. You can check in-game by looking for a highlighted face inside of your purple cube. If you see a highlighted face in the cube you are using *direct* targeting. When there is no face in the cube you are using indirect targeting. Placing things through existing blocks is still *direct* targeting most of the time, here is a sample screenshot where you can clearly see the highlighted face (overlaid on top of everything): http://downloads.angeldu.st/indirect-targeting-2.jpg Please check in practice if you can see the highlighted cube face or not during your building activities. Let me know if this knowledge changes your perception of indirect targeting. I'm investing time in this because the indirect targeting system is (in my current opinion) very weird and prevents the direct targeting system from working more pleasantly. I thought that simplifying targeting and extending the range would be a very good thing to make building more comfortable.

I got ninja'ed by obi, who is correct in stating that indirect targeting is [only in] this game. That's why I'm contemplating removing it, so people don't get upset that building works a bit differently here compared to other games and applications.
