Air Shield does work! It stops all enemy projectiles mid-air. It you walk through the stopped projectiles it does look like they still hurt you. Air shield is fantastic if you want to get away from a strong monster or are trying to be more defensive while your team attacks.

Glad to hear, I have only played as Scout & Fighter so far. I may have to try Sorceress some time.
