My ISP sucks. I am not going to mention them by name even though I want the world to know, they suck. Anyways I wanted to post my issues and what I did for those with a PC who might have similar issues. I have only tested this for a couple of days but I am noticing positive results. My issues. Internet worked fine then all of a sudden speeds would drop. Now around high traffic times in the day I understand this in my area. But it gets so much worse then that. My upload will go from 25 down to 0, then back up just as quick. Download speeds at 550 would drop as well but not nearly as much as upload speeds. So I called, argued that the issue is at their end, not mine. Well, apparently all of us users are idiots lol. So I had to fix this myself. I have a Linux machine, hard wired. Three feet of cable only coming form outside. No splitters, no routers, no wireless, nothing. Just a modem. And that modem is new, they sent it to me after two others that failed. The problem is still there. So this is what I did. I believe my ISP's network is over crowded. I changed my DNS to OpenDNS I strongly suggest this for everyone, even if you have no issues (all ISP's default DNS servers simply suck.) And right away I noticed a huge difference. My ping was a little higher but it was stable. I would still have issues so... I used a program called Macchanger, a CLI program. I then went into my network settings and manually put in the new mac address under the mask line. This in turn will reset your ip address. I had to unplug my modem (and plugged the power back in after around 30 secs.) so it would recognize the changes. I am not making anything permanent just yet, I want to test this for a week or two to see what the patterns are. I am posting this because when the game had lag it was very, very brief. But with my ISP issues it was horrible. Red, freezing, etc. This might help others trouble shoot issues, if they are having issues. I would love to hear thoughts, if anyone has any, on this. IMO it is a very odd situation and solution. Unless they are throttling or similar. Or maybe my IP address itself was being targeted, though I didn't see anything like that. There are still some lag issues with my ISP. But not even close to what it was before, well so far. I believe that part is due to aging hardware they just don't care to upgrade.
